Piaggio Inaugurates Manufacturing Plant for Vespa in Baramati-piaggiogroup

 In the two wheel portfolio, the company sells Gilera, Moto Guzzi, Aprilia, Scarabeo and Derbi brands. The Italy based automaker Piaggio owns 9 different companies at present.

The company is ranked the leading two-wheeler producer of Europe and fourth biggest bike maker by sales. Piaggio has its network in more than 50 countries.

In India, the company launched Vespa in India in collaboration with Bajaj Auto in 1960; the alliance could not go for long due to some license upgradation issue in 1971. Again, Piaggio tied-up with LML Motors and launched the Vespa under LML Vespa name in 1983; this collaboration also come to an end on account of some dispute between two partners. The production was stopped in 1983, thereafter Piaggio did not tie-up with any company and Vespa was completely brought back from India. Once again, Piaggio announced to foray in the country with the flagship Vespa scooter.
